French passenger to sue Ryanair
A French passenger has threatened to sue budget airline, Ryanair, after he was thrown off his flight at Malaga Airport.
The plane was on its way from Marseille to Morocco when it was diverted to Malaga, after police received reports of an ´unruly passenger´. The French national was thrown off the plane in Malaga for alleged rowdy conduct.
Ryanair stated: “The police took him off the plane on its arrival, but the other passengers continued on their journey to Marrakesh.”
The passenger, Marc Gharbi, 50, said that he was angry with Ryanair and that his behaviour had “at no moment been violent or insulting.” He added that he intends to make a legal complaint against Ryanair.
Gharbi said that when he checked-in with Ryanair, ground crew had forced him to pay a surcharge of €80 because he had failed to produce a printout of his boarding pass after registering for his flight online.
He says: “It´s a new idea. Now you have to print both the ticket and the boarding card. There´s nothing to tell you this clearly on the website, just a little box at the bottom of the ticket mentions it.”
After angry words on the ground, Gharbi and his daughter boarded the plane en route for Morocco. As the flight was underway, the passenger said a steward complained that his legs were blocking the aisle and asked him to move seats. Gharbi refused and there was another argument. The passenger filmed the argument, but the actual nature of the exchange was inaudible because of engine noise.
Says Gharbi: “ I´d had enough by this stage. I was angry so he (the steward) called the captain and said he was going to have me taken off in Malaga.”
Gharbi claimed he was met by police but not arrested and then paid €600 for a taxi, hotel and ferry ticket back to Morocco.
